Day Twenty-four: Thursday, March 26, 2015

This documentation is beginning to feel a little more serious lately and I don’t always want to come off as serious or constantly worried.  Even though the latter is true.

Wordless. Boring. Thursday. And Bam! Tornado drill.
Thank the stormy heavens of spring in the midwest.  Tornado season is upon us.

Maybe this is another metaphor for life.  Sometimes it is real dull and boring.  And then, bam! Life happens and you have to make the most of what you’ve got, fast!

I have been reading, mostly memoirs, as of late. I am really interested in the stories of people that I will never personally know but have always admired.

What I’ve learned is that everyone is dealing with their inner beasts and demons, and by that. I mean, we all have low points in life.  Those times are not what defines us.  Trials can affect us and change us, but we have the ability to write our own story.  We don’t have to live with the definitions that are assigned to us by life.

Here is a short list of the biographies I found inspiring.

Dream New Dreams by Jai Pausch
Watch Me by Anjelica Huston
Wild by Cheryl Strayed
Inconceivable by Carolyn and Sean Savage
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me by Mindy Kaling
I Must Say by Martin Short

As I mentioned, I’ve been reading a lot.  There are some other books I’ve read but just wasn’t that impressed with the due to writing style and/or content.  Here are a few authors I haven’t fallen in love with; Donna Tartt, Amy Poehler, Gayle Forman, Ellen DeGeneres, Veronica Roth, the Kardashian’s, Elizabeth Smart, and some of Tina Fey’s work but not all of it, etc.

It’s hard to for me to stop something I’ve started, but some authors aren’t even worth mentioning in this post.  Okay, maybe the non mentionable list should have included the Kardashian’s.

In today’s largely sexualized media focused world that idolizes this type of female, sometimes, I can’t help but require an immediate personality boost.  One that reflects confidence in my choices and promotes trust in myself for the way I live.  Kardashian Konfidential did exactly that.

I’ve also been catching up on some self-care/help books.  They are a little slower but full of tips and insights.
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer
and a reread from my college days, The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John Gottman

Then there are my favorite novels that I highly recommend. Of course, the Harry Potter series.  Yes, I have been rereading them and it has been total nostalgia.
The Soloist by Steve Lopez
Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
Peter Pan by J.M Barrie
and The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins

I’ve never been a big reader.  These books are easy reads and I really enjoyed forgetting about my world and living in books lately.  Have you read a good book lately?  What would you suggest?
